Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is one of the more powerful feature sets associated with HDMI™, and it is also one of the most challenging to implement effectively. While CEC offers manufacturers a great opportunity to differentiate their products through ease of use by enabling "one-touch" commands that make life a lot simpler for the consumer, there is also a high degree of complexity involved and the risk that products will not be fully interoperable, particularly in mixed-vendor home theater systems. That is why Simplay Labs has put together an end-to-end CEC Solutions Suite. Our CEC Solutions Suite offers manufacturers a unique set of tools and services for deploying CEC-enabled products faster, with greater reliability, and with less of a drain on critical engineering resources.

The CEC Solutions Suite includes four major components. The CEC IP package is a drop-in software stack containing high-level source code for all the CEC functions defined in the HDMI specification version 1.3a. Bundled with the CEC IP is a "try-before-you-buy" evaluation and development platform giving design engineers a chance to thoroughly preview the software before committing to purchasing the entire package. The Simplay CEC Explorer Development and Pretest tools make it easier for engineers to debug CEC functions and to pre-screen them for Simplay HD lab testing. The Simplay HD testing program has been updated to offer performance and interoperability testing for CEC-enabled devices, including plug-testing with a variety of other CEC-enabled devices. And with CEC consulting services, we make the engineering resources of Simplay Labs available to manufacturers who are implementing CEC functionality.
