Simplay Labs Expands Global Presence by Opening of Germany Lab and Introduces New Pre-Test Tool

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 6, 2007 — Simplay Labs, LLC, the leading provider of testing technologies, programs and interoperability design standards for the high-definition (HD) consumer electronics industry, today announced that it has opened a new lab in Hanover, Germany to help manufacturers test new consumer electronics (CE) products for interoperability performance. This new lab has been opened to meet the increasing demand from major European manufacturers who require fast response and turnaround in testing practices as they bring new CE products to market. The new Simplay Labs Germany will complement the five other existing labs in the United Kingdom, United States and Asia Pacific, and address this demand for Simplay HD services.

More than 170 CE products have been submitted to Simplay Labs for testing, demonstrating that it is a trusted mark of performance assurance with its testing technologies, tools and services of HDMI products. Simplay Labs has also earned the support of leading consumer electronics manufacturers and has recently signed a number of new manufacturers to its testing program, including Denon Electronics, Harmon International, Linksys®, a Division of Cisco Systems, Inc., LG Electronics, Inc., Pioneer Electronics, Inc., Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Vestel Kominakasyon.

In addition to opening a new lab in Germany, Simplay also announced the availability of its Simplay Pre-test System, a test tool designed to identify interoperability, usability and performance issues before those products are submitted to a testing facility. This helps manufacturers troubleshoot most commonly found errors in pre-released products, ensuring a better user experience for consumers. Simplay Labs’ Pre-test System (SPS) goes beyond testing the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and High-Definition Content Protection (HDCP) specifications and focuses more on user experience, setting a higher performance standard for the CE industry.

“Our recent global expansion, new partners and products tested are an indication that the market demands this service program and validates Simplay Labs as the solution to help CE manufacturers meet consumer expectations,” said Joseph Lias, president of Simplay Labs. “The new Simplay Labs Germany service coupled with our SPS delivers an added dimension to our ongoing commitment to supporting customers with industry leading solutions designed to enhance product performance.”

The SPS is a compact, self-contained testing system with a built-in display, custom designed printed circuit boards and a DVD player, packaged inside a rugged, transportable case on wheels. It is the first pre-test tool of its kind for CE manufacturers and focuses on the performance of the HDMI/HDCP protocols, as well as robust behavior under various use scenarios. The SPS screens products for HDMI/HDCP implementation performance, identifies and de-bugs performance issues well in advance of production, increases confidence of passing Simplay HD testing on the first attempt, and enables manufacturers to bring products to market faster.
